Building Back Links

Today it’s Part 5 in our 6 Steps To Successful Seo Series. Building Back Links. Click  here for Part 4.

Links, links and more links, that’s what you need to be sucessful at seo. Right? More or less, but usually more. There are so many types of links you can get. You can get raw url back links (www.yourdomain.com), anchor text links, social media links, social bookmark links, links from directory sites, blogs, high page rank links, blog comment links, high page rank links, forum profile links, themed links…..

Of all these links people assume high PageRank links and themed links from websites similar to yours are the most valuable. Well usually high PR (PageRank) links are best for raising your own PR but they don’t automatically guarantee you high rankings.

Leslie Rohde proved that the links you build do not have to be from articles about the same subject. See the facts here: Leslie Rohde Proof. I.e. your article could be about dog shampoo and a link to your website containing the anchor text “snow boarding shoes” would just be as valuable.

Your ranking portfolio should not consist of just links from one source, for example having 10 000 forum links and no other links would not actually be quite beneficial in most seo campaigns. It just would not only not look natural but these and social profile links are just not that strong.

In content links (links inside articles or posts) are generally regarded as the most valuable links, but it depends on whether the domain they are hosted on has a good amount of links and domain age as well. Personally i think blog commenting links are a waste of time in both resources and actual link authority count. But still many seo companies provide this service.

When it comes to links one thing really counts. Getting as many new sources as possible from unique ip addresses. In other words getting links from new websites you have never previously got a link from. So you need a consistent strategy.

Here’s a few ways to get links.

  1. Write 5 articles per week and submit them to article directories.
  2. Spin or rewrite these 5 articles to get another 15 articles and submit them to article directories, blog directories and webmasters you have built relationships with.
  3. Create your own blog or mini site networks. Create links to these from articles and social book mark accounts so you are sending links to the links.
  4. Upload videos to video sharing sites and put your web address in the video description. Many sites make this clickable.
  5. Take the articles you have made and turn them into podcasts and submit them to podcast directories that allow you to link back to your site.
  6. Create a company blog with high quality content that people want to link to. They can find your blog if you link to it from your articles.
  7. Create videos from your articles and upload them to video sharing sites.
  8. Create a Face Book page and link to your site. Work on getting a Face Book following.
  9. Do the same with Twitter.
  10. Host a competition on your blog or website that people have to book mark to enter. You can do the same with the like button on Face Book. Give them an incentive to click it.
  11. Rinse and repeat this cycle on a weekly, monthly and quartely basis as part of your ever evolving seo strategy. Decide what keywords to go after on each campaign.

As you see the process of link building can be an enormous statistical and strategical enterprise. As you’ve noticed most of the focus revolves around creating content. Content gives you and the rest of the web opportunities to link to your site.
