Google Fights Back Against Seo

Google has taken the next step in its fight against seo, even though that’s the exact model they base their organic search engine listings on. If you don’t believe me go onto the Google official Blog or check what their search engine public spokesman Matt Cutts has to say about seo.

He doesn’t just have a lot to say about the subject, he even has tonnes of videos giving advice on how to perform seo. The latest Google tactics are to stop showing records of any visitor’s behaviour if they are logged into their Google account.

Up to now webmasters could log into their analytics software or web stats and see the stats for all the visitors who landed on their website. They would be able to tell what website browsers came from and more importantly what keywords they used to enter the website. But if a web browser lands on your site from now on, and they are logged into their Google account, these results are now filtered out and won’t be displayed.

Google says this only affects a small proportion of internet browsers. Then why do it in the first place? Clearly this is a move from Google against the seo industry. Clearly they want to make more money from the sponsored search listings and make more profits. Google gets most of its revenue from Adwords. But what they are failing to remember is that the more people who use Adwords the more the cost raises as more people bid on the same keywords.

Search engine optimizers are pretty good and guestimating what percentage of website visitors are arriving for certain keywords. You still will be able to accurately check in your web logs how many visitors you are getting to your website, and with the previous data being stored by seo companies and the seo industry at large for years, you will be able to determine what the heavy hitting most profitable keywords are.

Internet browsers will still be typing in major industry keywords, and it’s extremely difficult to optimize for every long tail keyword under the sun, and the list of new keywords doubles every 48 hours. (Google says 50% of all keywords used every day are new – so the long tail possibilities for keywords are infinite). So don’t go throwing away all your optimisation plans. Adwords will never provide as much traffic as organic seo. The click through rates are abysmal, the cost is high, and not even Coca Cola could afford to target every keyword related to their business.
