You may have heard recently that Facebook overtook Google in terms of search engine traffic in the United States. You may be shocked to know that the amount of servers used to power the Facebook phenomenon around the world each day use the same amount of electricity it takes to run New York. So should you be concentrating more on Facebook than Google?
Well Facebook is a completely different animal than Google. Many people log into Facebook and follow links and videos to the web. Many just keep signed in all day and brwse the web anyway. They float back in and out of Facebook as their friends pop online or wheneven they mood flits.
While having a business or group page is advisable for your business Facebook works slightly different than Google. It won’t drive people away from using the worlds favourite search engine soon. Right now search is linited on Facebook to it’s own data. Google has the whole, or what it deems fit of the web to display.
What is boils down to is user choice. Does a browser pop onto Google to find a teeth whitening brush set near their home town or onto Facebook? Right now Google wins in this local marketing scenario.
